The top wide receivers

On our most recent podcast, Griff made the claim that Robert Woods was a top 15 wide receiver in the league. I was driving back from Ireland at the time and almost swerved off the road. It’s not to say that Woods isn’t a good receiver – I like him, always have. But had I been on the show I would have joined Gary in arguing the point.

If Woods isn’t in the top 15, then who is. Well it’s a long drive from Holyhead to my my abode so I had plenty of time to think about it. In no particular order, here are 15 wide receivers I’d have on my team over Robert Woods:

Davante Adams (Las Vegas Raiders) – Granted his performance is based on playing with one of the greatest quarterbacks we’ve ever seen. But his ability to high point the ball and his route running means he’s top 5.

Cooper Kupp (LA Rams) – should have been the MVP in 2021 after a stellar season and big things will be expected from him again in 2022.

DeAndre Hopkins (Arizona Cardinals) – the guy is quarterback proof, look at his stats from his time in Houston where he had the likes of TJ Yates and Brock Osweler throwing to him!

Tyreek Hill (Miami Dolphins) – the Dolphins gave up a lot for him and it’ll probably be worth it.

Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings) – one of the best young wide receivers in the league, should get a big old contract from the Vikings at the end of this year

Ja’Marr Chase (Cincinnati Bengals) – broke all sorts of records in his rookie year, second year might be tougher but he’s immensley talented

Keenan Allen (LA Chargers) – doesn’t get as much attention as others but is certainly top ten

Stefon Diggs (Buffalo Bills) – has helped transform the Bills into a Super Bowl favourite. Has talent and a competitive attitude to go with it.

Mike Evans (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – I’ll always remember watching college tape of Jonny Manziel and how every overthrow TD he launched was pulled down by Mike Evans. Has been a standout in the NFL since his rookie year.

DJ Moore (Carolina Panthers) – another under appreciated receiver and often a good pick up in mid rounds in fantasy for a good reason, he produces.

AJ Brown (Philadelphia Eagles) – the guy Woods is going to help replace, but he’s not better than Brown on his own

Deebo Samuel (San Francisco 49ers)- wide back or whatever he is, he’s listed as a receiver and he’s worth every penny of the new contract the 49ers have given him

Brandin Cooks (Houston Texans) – all he does is record 1k yard seasons, irrespective of what team he’s on

Terry McLaurin (Washington Commanders) – one of the few stars in Washington that plays on offence. If Wentz is going to have any success it’ll be because he’s getting the ball into Scary Terry’s hands.

DK Metcalf (Seattle Seahawks) – Another receiver with a shiny new contract for good reason, he scores touchdowns despite sub par route running!

Honourable mentions for Tee Higgins, Brandon Aiyuk, Diontae Johnson, Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham, Tyler Lockett, Mike Williams, CeeDee Lamb, Hunter Renfrow and Jaylen Waddle who would also get on the ‘I’d take them before Woods’ list.
